Job Summary: The Wound Care Nurse is responsible for building and developing a comprehensive wound care program for the clinic. This individual will manage wound care for all clinic patients, as well as external referrals, while integrating the hyperbaric program as part of the treatment approach. The Wound Care Nurse must be highly experienced and well-versed in the latest wound care technologies, evidence-based practices, and treatment modalities. This role is essential in shaping the clinic’s wound care services and ensuring the highest level of patient care.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee the Wound Care program, including the training and supervision of any additional nursing staff or support personnel involved in wound care services.
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership to recruit and mentor team members as the program expands.
  • Oversee day-to-day wound care operations, ensuring the program meets regulatory and quality standards.
 

Duties/ Responsibilities:

Program Development:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive wound care program, incorporating the latest technologies and treatment protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinic leadership, and other healthcare professionals to develop policies and procedures for wound care services.
  • Develop protocols for integrating the hyperbaric program as part of wound care treatment plans.
  • Identify opportunities to grow the wound care program and increase patient volume, including marketing to external healthcare providers and communities.

Patient Care:

  • Provide specialized wound care for patients, including wound assessment, treatment, and ongoing monitoring of healing progress.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans using the most up-to-date techniques and evidence-based practices.
  • Perform advanced wound care treatments such as debridement, dressing changes, and negative pressure wound therapy.
  • Collaborate with the hyperbaric medicine team to coordinate care for patients requiring hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • Educate patients and families on wound care procedures, self-care, and preventive measures.

Coordination & Collaboration:

  • Serve as a liaison between the wound care team, hyperbaric team, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Work closely with external healthcare providers and hospitals to accept referrals and provide timely wound care for external patients.
  • Coordinate care with other specialists to ensure holistic treatment for patients with chronic or complex wounds.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ensure that all treatments, assessments, and outcomes are thoroughly documented to meet regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Stay informed on the latest regulatory guidelines for wound care and ensure the program remains compliant with all healthcare regulations.

Education & Training:

  • Educate clinic staff, patients, and caregivers on the principles of wound care, new treatment modalities, and best practices.
  • Stay current with industry advancements and attend continuing education courses on wound care and hyperbaric medicine.
  • Provide training and mentoring to clinical staff as the wound care program expands.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

Education/Certifications/Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wyoming.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Master’s degree a plus.
  • Wound Care Certification (WCC), Certified Wound Specialist (CWS), or Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) required.
  • Certification in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy preferred, or willingness to obtain.
 

Experience

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in wound care nursing, with a proven track record of managing or developing wound care programs.
  • Experience with advanced wound care techniques, including the use of the latest wound care technologies and therapies.
  • Previous experience working with a hyperbaric medicine program or collaborating with hyperbaric oxygen therapy as part of wound care treatment plans is strongly preferred.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in a clinical setting is a plus.

  • Strong leadership and program development skills, with the ability to build and expand a wound care program.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across departments.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize patient care while managing program operations.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and healthcare documentation.
