Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) with PICC Line experience provides comprehensive nursing care to patients, including specialized vascular access support as needed. This role involves delivering patient-centered care through assessments, treatment planning, and direct nursing interventions while performing PICC line insertions, maintenance, and removals when required. The RN collaborates with other healthcare providers to promote optimal patient outcomes and adherence to clinical protocols.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance and support to other nursing staff regarding PICC line and general nursing procedures.
- Assists in training and mentoring clinic staff on proper PICC line techniques and infection prevention practices.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to vascular access and patient care protocols.
Duties/Responsibilities:
PICC Line Responsibilities (As Needed):
- Assess patients for suitability for PICC line insertion and collaborate with physicians as required.
- Perform PICC line insertions, ensuring sterile technique and utilizing ultrasound guidance as appropriate.
- Conduct ongoing PICC line maintenance and monitoring, addressing any complications, troubleshooting, and removing lines when indicated.
- Educate patients and families on proper PICC line care, infection prevention, and warning signs of potential complications.
- Document all aspects of PICC line procedures and patient interactions in the medical record according to clinic standards.
General RN Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and administer medications and treatments per clinic protocols.
- Monitor patient progress, adjust care plans as needed, and communicate any changes or concerns to the healthcare team.
- Assist with routine procedures and treatments, including wound care, catheter care, and injections, following clinic guidelines.
- Educate patients and families about health management, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care teams to optimize patient outcomes and ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, procedures, and care plans in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Support infection control, safety, and quality assurance efforts throughout the clinic.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Current RN licensure in the state of Wyoming.
- Certification in PICC line insertion required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of ambulatory nursing experience, with at least 1 year in PICC line care or vascular access.
- Experience in an outpatient or clinic setting is advantageous.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency in PICC line insertion, maintenance, and removal, with skill in ultrasound guidance.
- Strong knowledge of vascular access protocols, infection control, and sterile procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient education and team collaboration.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation and adherence to clinical protocols.
- Problem-solving abilities to address and resolve patient care and PICC line issues.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinic environment.
- Competency in using electronic medical records (EMR) and healthcare technology.
